RESUMO

Flexible tactile sensors have attracted significant interest because of their application scope in the fields of biomedicine, motion detection, and human-computer interaction. However, the development of tactile sensors with high sensitivity and flexibility remains a critical challenge. This study develops a patterned, stretchable, and fully elastomeric multiwalled carbon nanotube (MWCNT)/silver nanowire (Ag NW)/silicone rubber (SR) composite. The addition of Ag NWs to MWCNTs enhances the transmission path of the conductive network, yielding a CNT/Ag NW/SR composite with a sensitivity coefficient of 40. This characteristic renders it suitable for use as a piezoresistive sensing material. The interlocking sawtooth structure can convert the mechanical stimuli of the sensor to the tensile strain of the composite, thereby enhancing its sensitivity and flexibility. Experimental results indicate that the developed tactile sensor exhibited a sensitivity of 2.82 N-1 at 0-0.5 N and 1.51 N-1 at 0.5-2 N. These haptic sensors also demonstrate good dynamic response, repeatability, and long life. Furthermore, experimental results show that these haptic sensors exhibit high reproducibility, fast dynamic response, and good mechanical and electrical stability. Because of these exceptional properties, the as-prepared sensor can be applied in the development of smart robots, prosthetics, and wearable devices.

BACKGROUND: Recently, studies on behavioral interventions for autism have gained popularity. Naturalistic Developmental Behavior Interventions (NDBIs) are among the most effective, evidence-based, and widely used behavior interventions for autism. However, no research has been conducted on which of the several NDBI methods is most effective for parents and children with autism spectrum disorders. Therefore, we conducted a network meta-analysis to compare the specific effects of each type of parental-mediated NDBI on children's developmental skills and parent fidelity. METHODS: PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Medline, Web of Science, China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), CINAHL, and Wanfang databases were searched from inception to August 30, 2023. A total of 32 randomized controlled trial studies that examined the efficacy of different NDBIs were included. RESULTS: Parents of children with ASD who received Pivotal Response Treatment (PRT) reported significant improvements in their children's social skills (SUCRA, 74.1%), language skills (SUCRA, 88.3%), and parenting fidelity (SUCRA, 99.5%). Moreover, parents who received Early Start Denver Model (ESDM) reported significant improvements in their children's language (SMD = 0.41, 95% CI: 0.04, 0.79) and motor skills (SMD = 0.44, 95% CI: 0.09, 0.79). In terms of the efficacy of improving parent fidelity, the results showed that the Improving Parents as Communication Teachers (ImPACT) intervention significantly improved parent fidelity when compared with the treatment-as-usual group (TAU) (SMD = 0.90, 95% CI: 0.39, 1.42) and the parental education intervention (PEI) (SMD = 1.10, 95% CI:0.28, 1.91).There was a difference in parent fidelity among parents who received PRT(SMD = 3.53, 95% CI: 2.26, 4.79) or ESDM(SMD = 1.42, 95% CI: 0.76, 2.09) training compared with PEI. CONCLUSION: In conclusion, this study revealed that parents can achieve high fidelity with the ImPACT intervention, and it can serve as an early first step for children newly diagnosed with ASD. It also showed that parent-mediated ESDM is effective in improving language and motor skills for children with ASD and can be used as part of the second stage of parent training. Parent-mediated PRT can also be used as a third stage of parent training with sufficient training intensity to further improve language, social, and motor skills.

BACKGROUND: NOP2/Sun domain 2 (NSUN2) is one of the important RNA methyltransferases catalyzing 5-methylcytosine (m5C) formation and participates in many critical bioprocesses. However, the roles and underlying molecular mechanisms of NSUN2-mediated m5C modification in colorectal cancer (CRC) remain unclear. METHODS: To explore the NSUN2 expression in CRC, fresh tissue samples were collected and Nsun2 knockout mouse was constructed. In vitro and in vivo functional assays were conducted to assess the role of NSUN2. RNA array and bisulfite sequencing were used to investigate the potential targets. The mechanisms of NSUN2 function on SKIL were identified by m5C-methylated-RNA immunoprecipitation and RNA stability assays. Additionally, tissue microarray analysis was conducted and patient-derived tumour xenograft mouse (PDX) models were used to define the potential therapeutic targets. RESULTS: NSUN2 was highly expressed in CRC and correlated with poor CRC patient survival. Moreover, silencing NSUN2 suppressed CRC tumourigenesis and progression in Nsun2 knockout mouse models. In vitro and in vivo studies suggested that NSUN2 promoted colorectal cancer cell growth. Mechanistically, SKI-like proto-oncogene (SKIL) is positively regulated by NSUN2, and the NSUN2-SKIL axis is clinically relevant to CRC. NSUN2 induced m5C modification of SKIL and stabilized its mRNA, which was mediated by Y-box binding protein 1 (YBX1). Elevated SKIL levels increased transcriptional coactivator with PDZ-binding motif (TAZ) activation. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings highlight the importance of NSUN2 in the initiation and progression of CRC via m5C-YBX1-dependent stabilization of the SKIL transcript, providing a promising targeted therapeutic strategy for CRC.

BACKGROUND: Limited study has investigated the influence of parent-child interaction on brain functional alterations and development outcomes of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) children. This pilot study aimed to explore the relationship between parent-child interaction, brain functional activities and development outcomes of ASD children. METHODS: and Procedures: 653 ASD with an average age of 41.06 ± 10.88 months and 102 typically developmental (TD) children with an average age of 44.35 ± 18.39 months were enrolled in this study, of whom 155 ASD completed brain rs-fMRI scans. The amplitude of low-frequency fluctuations (ALFF) and regional homogeneity (ReHo) measured using resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI) data reflect local brain function. The parent-child interaction was assessed by the Chinese Parent-child Interaction Scale (CPCIS). Childhood Autism Rating Scale (CARS) and developmental quotient (DQ) indicated development outcomes. OUTCOMES AND RESULTS: Total CPCIS score was negatively correlated with CARS total score, and positively correlated with DQ. The frequency of parent-child interaction was negatively correlated with ALFF values in the left median cingulate and paracingulate gyri (DCG.L) and ReHo values in the right superior frontal gyrus, medial (SFGmed.R)(P < 0.05, FDR correction). ALFF values in the DCG.L and ReHo values in the SFGmed.R play complete mediating roles in the relationship between parent-child interaction and performance DQ. CONCLUSION AND IMPLICATIONS: This study suggest that parent-child interaction has an impact on autistic characteristics and DQ of ASD children. Local brain regions with functional abnormalities in the DCG.L and SFGmed.R may be a crucial factors affecting the performance development of ASD children with reduced parent-child interaction.

Silver nanowires (AgNWs) have attractive applications in the fabrication of flexible electronics because of their adequate electrical conductivity, mechanical properties, and oxidation resistance. However, the film produced by AgNW ink needs to be sintered at temperatures above 200 °C to obtain high electrical conductivity, which is incompatible with commonly used flexible substrates such as paper or polymer materials. In this study, the AgNW network was decorated byin situreduced Ag particles (AgPs) to improve the structural integrity and conductivity of the film. After sintering at 80 °C, the pores and voids within the AgNW network were filled with Ag particles smaller than 200 nm, and the porosity of the film was markedly reduced. The lowest resistivity value was 3.9 × 10-5Ω cm after sintering at 100 °C, only 10.8% and 8.5% of the resistivity values of the films produced from AgNW and ion inks, respectively. During sintering, Ag nucleated on the surface of AgNWs, and its growth and agglomeration resulted in interconnections between the AgNWs and Ag particles. Thereafter, the bridging and filling effect of the Ag particles facilitated the formation of a compact and firm network, improving the film conductivity. The line film printed from the composite ink with 10 layers exhibited a low resistivity of 7.3 × 10-7Ω·m. Even after 5000 bending cycles, the resistivity of the line only increased by 4.47 × 10-6Ω·cm from the initial value. The composite ink reported in this study is a promising candidate for the low-cost printing of ultralow-power-consumption wearable electronic devices.

Extracellular vesicles (EVs) contain the characteristics of their cell of origin and mediate cell-to-cell communication. Platelet-derived extracellular vesicles (PEVs) not only have procoagulant activity but also contain platelet-derived inflammatory factors (CD40L and mtDNA) that mediate inflammatory responses. Studies have shown that platelets are activated during storage to produce large amounts of PEVs, which may have implications for platelet transfusion therapy. Compared to platelets, PEVs have a longer storage time and greater procoagulant activity, making them an ideal alternative to platelets. This review describes the reasons and mechanisms by which PEVs may have a role in blood transfusion therapy.


What is the context?Platelet transfusion is a treatment that can be effective in preventing bleeding and reducing the amount of bleeding. However, platelet transfusion may cause some unsatisfactory effects for patients, such as adverse transfusion reactions and poor prognosis in cancer patients. These benefits and harms caused by platelet transfusion may be related to PEVs. With the prolongation of storage time during the shelf life of platelets, PEVs were continuously released and the therapeutic effect of platelet components seems to get worse.What is new?This article not only reviews the evidence for PEVs plays a role in blood transfusion therapy but also introduces the mechanism of PEVs in platelet storage lesion and the common methods of isolation and characterization of PEVs.What is the impact?It is necessary to improve the method of isolation and purification of PEVs, to increase the purity of PEVs isolation, and to further demonstrate the potential of PEVs to replace platelets. Further research into the mechanisms by which platelets and PEVs affect the prognosis of cancer patients is required.

BACKGROUND: There are overlapping effects of screen time and sleep on children's behavior. The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship of screen time with behavior problems in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and the probable mediating effects of sleep, in order to provide evidence for the need for clinical identification and intervention. METHODS: A sample of 358 preschoolers with ASD were included. We investigated the children's basic characteristics of sex and age, ASD symptoms (ABC, CARS, and ADOS-2), neurodevelopment (GDS-C), sleep habits (CSHQ), and behavior (CBCL). Pearson correlation tests were used to determine the direct correlations among children's screen time, CBCL, and CSHQ. Linear regression analysis was used to explore whether screen time predicted total score of CBCL. Multi-step linear regression analysis was used to investigate the mediating effect of sleep on the relationship between screen time and total score of CBCL. RESULTS: Screen time before bedtime was correlated with CBCL and CSHQ, which indicated that screen time before bedtime was correlated with sleep and behavior in children with ASD. Screen time before bedtime was a predictor of CBCL total score (indicating children's behavior), and CSHQ total score (indicating children's sleep habits) played a partial mediating role between screen time before bedtime and children's behavior. CONCLUSION: Clinicians should support and educate parents of children with ASD, which should focus on managing screen time, especially screen time before bedtime.

Gastric cancer (GC), one of the most common malignant tumors in the world, exhibits a rapid metastasis rate and causes high mortality. Diagnostic markers and potential therapeutic targets for GCs are urgently needed. Here we show that Actin-like protein 6 A (ACTL6A), encoding an SWI/SNF subunit, is highly expressed in GCs. ACTL6A is found to be critical for regulating the glutathione (GSH) metabolism pathway because it upregulates γ-glutamyl-cysteine ligase catalytic subunit (GCLC) expression, thereby reducing reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels and inhibiting ferroptosis, a regulated form of cell death driven by the accumulation of lipid-based ROS. Mechanistic studies show that ACTL6A upregulates GCLC as a cotranscription factor with Nuclear factor (erythroid-derived 2)-like 2 (NRF2) and that the hydrophobic region of ACTL6A plays an important role. Our data highlight the oncogenic role of ACTL6A in GCs and indicate that inhibition of ACTL6A or GCLC could be a potential treatment strategy for GCs.

Wheat stripe rust, caused by Puccinia striiformis f. sp. tritici, is one of the most serious plant diseases worldwide. Resistant cultivars are the most effective way to control the disease. YrTr1 is an important stripe rust resistance gene that has been used in wheat breeding programs and is represented in the host differential set to identify P. striiformis f. sp. tritici races in the United States. To map YrTr1, AvSYrTr1NIL was backcrossed to its recurrent parent Avocet S (AvS). Seedlings of BC7F2, BC7F3, and BC8F1 populations were tested with YrTr1-avirulent races under controlled conditions, and BC7F2 plants were genotyped using simple sequence repeat (SSR) and single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers. YrTr1 was mapped to the short arm of chromosome 1B using four SSR and seven SNP markers. The genetic distances of YrTr1 from the nearest flanking markers IWA2583 and IWA7480 were 1.8 and 1.3 centimorgans (cM), respectively. DNA amplification of a set of 21 Chinese Spring (CS) nulli-tetrasomic lines and seven CS 1B deletion lines with three SSR markers confirmed the chromosome arm location and further placed the gene in chromosomal bin region 1BS18 (0.5). The gene was determined to be about 7.4 cM proximal to Yr10. Based on multirace response array and chromosomal location, YrTr1 was determined to be different from other permanently named stripe rust resistance genes in chromosome arm 1BS and was named Yr85.

BACKGROUND: This study evaluated vitamin A (VA), copper (Cu), and zinc (Zn) levels in the population with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) in Jilin Province, China. Furthermore, we examined their links to core symptoms and neurodevelopment, as well as gastrointestinal (GI) comorbidities and sleep disorders. METHODS: This study included 181 children with autism and 205 typically developing (TD) children. The participants had not taken vitamin/mineral supplements in the prior three months. High-performance liquid chromatography was used to measure serum VA levels. By using inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry, Zn and Cu concentrations in plasma were determined. Importantly, the Childhood Autism Rating Scale, the Social Responsiveness Scale, and the Autism Behavior Checklist were used to measure core ASD symptoms. However, the Griffith Mental Development Scales-Chinese were used to measure neurodevelopment. GI comorbidities and sleep abnormalities were assessed with the 6 Item-Gastrointestinal Severity Index and Children's Sleep Habits Questionnaire, respectively. Children with ASD with GI issues were grouped according to severity (low GI severity and high GI severity groups). RESULTS: (i) The difference in VA, Zn, Cu levels and the Zn/Cu ratio between ASD and TD children is small. But children with ASD had lower VA levels and Zn/Cu ratio, higher Cu levels than TD children. Cu levels in children with ASD were associated with the severity of core symptoms. (ii) Children with ASD were much more likely than their TD counterparts to suffer from GI comorbidities or sleep problems. Furthermore, it was observed that high GI severity was associated with lower levels of VA, whereas low GI severity was associated with higher levels of VA. (iii) The children with ASD who had both lower VA and lower Zn/Cu ratio had more severe scores on the Autism Behavior Checklist, but not on other measures. CONCLUSION: Children with ASD had lower VA and Zn/Cu ratio, and higher Cu levels. Cu levels in children with ASD were weakly correlated with one subscale on social or self-help. ASD children with lower VA levels may face more serious GI comorbidities. Children with ASD combined VA-Zn/Cu lower had more severe core symptoms. Objective: To analyze the risk factors for developmental quotients (DQs) of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and to better understand the effects of screen time on neurodevelopment in children with ASD. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the data of 382 children with ASD, including demographic profiles; socioeconomic status; score on the Chinese parent-child interaction scale (CPCIS); screen time questionnaire; ASD symptom rating scales, including the Autism Behavior Checklist (ABC), Childhood Autism Rating Scale (CARS), and Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule Second Edition (ADOS-2); and DQs using Griffiths Development Scales-Chinese Edition. Univariate analysis was carried out to analyze the factors related to the DQs of children with ASD, and then the linear regression model was used to identify the independent influencing factors of the DQs of children with ASD. Results: Vitamin D (ß = 0.180, p = 0.002), age (ß = -0.283, p = 0.000) and CARS score (ß = -0.347, p = 0.000) are risk factors related to DQ of locomotor in children with ASD. Vitamin D (ß = 0.108, p = 0.034), CARS score (ß = -0.503, p = 0.000), ADOS-2 severity score (ß = -0.109, p = 0.045) and CPCIS score (ß = 0.198, p = 0.000) are risk factors related to DQ of personal social skill in children with ASD. Vitamin D (ß = 0.130, p = 0.018), CARS score (ß = -0.469, p = 0.000), and CPCIS score (ß = 0.133, p = 0.022) are risk factors related to DQ of hearing-speech in children with ASD. Vitamin D (ß = 0.163, p = 0.003) and CARS score (ß = -0.471, p = 0.000) are risk factors related to DQ of eye-hand coordination in children with ASD. Age (ß = -0.140, p = 0.020), CARS score (ß = -0.342, p = 0.000), ADOS-2 severity score (ß = -0.133, p = 0.034) and CPCIS score (ß = 0.193, p = 0.002) are risk factors related to DQ of performance in children with ASD. Vitamin D (ß = 0.801, p = 0.000) and CPCIS score (ß = 0.394, p = 0.019) are risk factors related to DQ of practical reasoning in children with ASD. Conclusion: Vitamin D status, the severity of autistic symptoms and parent-child interaction are risk factors for developmental quotients in children with ASD. Screen exposure time is negatively associated with DQs in children with ASD but is not an independent risk factor for DQs.

Metabolic reprogramming can contribute to colorectal cancer progression and therapy resistance. Identification of key regulators of colorectal cancer metabolism could provide new approaches to improve treatment and reduce recurrence. Here, we demonstrate a critical role for the COP9 signalosome subunit CSN6 in rewiring nucleotide metabolism in colorectal cancer. Transcriptomic analysis of colorectal cancer patient samples revealed a correlation between CSN6 expression and purine and pyrimidine metabolism. A colitis-associated colorectal cancer model established that Csn6 intestinal conditional deletion decreased tumor development and altered nucleotide metabolism. CSN6 knockdown increased the chemosensitivity of colorectal cancer cells in vitro and in vivo, which could be partially reversed with nucleoside supplementation. Isotope metabolite tracing showed that CSN6 loss reduced de novo nucleotide synthesis. Mechanistically, CSN6 upregulated purine and pyrimidine biosynthesis by increasing expression of PHGDH, a key enzyme in the serine synthesis pathway. CSN6 inhibited ß-Trcp-mediated DDX5 polyubiquitination and degradation, which in turn promoted DDX5-mediated PHGDH mRNA stabilization, leading to metabolic reprogramming and colorectal cancer progression. Butyrate treatment decreased CSN6 expression and improved chemotherapy efficacy. These findings unravel the oncogenic role of CSN6 in regulating nucleotide metabolism and chemosensitivity in colorectal cancer. SIGNIFICANCE: CSN6 deficiency inhibits colorectal cancer development and chemoresistance by downregulating PHGDH to block nucleotide biosynthesis, providing potential therapeutic targets to improve colorectal cancer treatment.

BAF53A, an important subunit of the SWI/SNF epigenetic chromatin regulatory complex, has been implicated as the driver of diverse cancers. However, the role of BAF53A in colorectal cancer (CRC) remains poorly understood. Here, we examined the expression of BAF53A in CRC samples and observed that BAF53A was significantly upregulated in CRC tissues compared with paired adjacent normal tissues. In vitro and in vivo studies suggested that ectopic expression of BAF53A promoted colorectal cancer cell proliferation, colony formation, and tumorigenesis, whereas knockdown of BAF53A hindered these cellular functions. DUSP5 (dual-specificity phosphatase 5), an ERK1/2-specific endogenous phosphatase, was expressed at low levels in CRC. We found a negative correlation between BAF53A and DUSP5 expression in a set of CRC samples. Mechanistic studies revealed that P63 was a potential transcription repressor of DUSP5. BAF53A could interact with P63, decreasing the DUSP5 expression level and subsequently promoting ERK1/2 phosphorylation. Thus, our study provides insights into the applicability of the BAF53A-DUSP5-ERK1/2 axis as a potential therapeutic target in CRC.

Objective: To explore and compare the cognitive processing weakness of children with Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and comorbid reading disabilities (RD) (ADHD+RD) and children with ADHD only using the Das-Naglieri Cognitive Assessment System (DN:CAS). Methods: Eighty-eight children with ADHD who visited the hospital for the first time from September 2021 to November 2021 and had a Full scale intelligence quotient (IQ) of ≥85 on the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children revised in China (C-WISC) were selected (Age: 6-12 years; Grade: 2-6). Based on comorbidity with RD and the subtypes of ADHD (e.g., Inattention dominant type, ADHD-I, Hyperactivity/Impulse dominant type, ADHD-H and Combined type, ADHD-C), these children were divided into the ADHD+RD group (n = 30) and ADHD group (n = 58) as well as the corresponding subgroups. Clinical data on gender, age, grade, IQ scores, and DN:CAS processing scores were compared between both groups/subgroups. Spearman's correlation test was used for correlation analysis of results of interest. Results: No differences in age, grade, male-to-female ratio, verbal IQ, performance IQ, and full scale IQ were observed between the ADHD+RD group and ADHD group as well as the corresponding subgroups (P > 0.05). Children in the ADHD-C+RD subgroup had lower scores in Planning processing of DN:CAS than those in the ADHD-C subgroup (P = 0.040). However, there were no significant difference between the ADHD-I+RD subgroup and ADHD-I subgroup in Planning scores of DN:CAS assessment; The grade of ADHD-C+RD and ADHD-I+RD subgroups were positively correlated with the Planning scores of DN: CAS (r = 0.599, P = 0.030 and r = 0.508, P = 0.044, respectively). The grade of ADHD-C subgroup was positively correlated with the Planning and Simultaneous processing scores of DN: CAS (r = 0.409, P = 0.042 and r = 0.406, P = 0.044, respectively). Conclusion: Our study confirmed that children of ADHD-C with comorbid RD have a more severe Planning processing weakness compared to children with ADHD-C only. Among the children of ADHD-C+RD, ADHD-I+RD and ADHD-C, such a Planning processing impairment may improve with increasing educational skills.

In this cross-sectional study, 84 children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and 77 healthy subjects showing typical development (TD) were reviewed. Parents reviewed the age of introduction of complementary foods (CFs), completed a demographic, diet behavior questionnaire and the Autism Behavior Checklist (ABC). The results showed that the age of introduction of CFs was later in children with ASD than their TD counterparts. The age of introduction of CFs in ASD group was positively correlated with feeding problem. While the correlation was not observed in TD group. Children in the ASD group had higher total scores of the diet behavior questionnaire and all four subdomains (poor eating ability, mealtime eating behavior, food selectivity, and parental feeding behavior). ASD symptoms were clearly associated with feeding problems. The sensory subdomain score in ABC was positively correlated with poor eating ability, mealtime behavior and total score of the diet behavior questionnaire. The social self-care subdomain score was positively correlated with food selectivity. The interaction subdomain score was negative correlated with parental feeding behavior and total score of the diet behavior questionnaire. Further studies are required to establish the utility of delayed CFs introduction and/or early feeding problems as potential indicators of ASD.

Expansins play important roles in root growth and development, but investigation of the expansin gene family has not yet been reported in Ipomoea trifida, and little is known regarding storage root (SR) development. In this work, we identified a total of 37 expansins (ItrEXPs) in our previously reported SR-forming I. trifida strain Y22 genome, which included 23 ItrEXPAs, 4 ItrEXPBs, 2 ItrEXLAs and 8 ItrEXLBs. The phylogenetic relationship, genome localization, subcellular localization, gene and protein structure, promoter cis-regulating elements, and protein interaction network were systematically analyzed to reveal the possible roles of ItrEXPs in the SR development of I. trifida. The gene expression profiling in Y22 SR development revealed that ItrEXPAs and ItrEXLBs were down-regulated, and ItrEXPBs were up-regulated while ItrEXLAs were not obviously changed during the critical period of SR expansion, and might be beneficial to SR development. Combining the tissue-specific expression in young SR transverse sections of Y22 and sweetpotato tissue, we deduced that ItrEXLB05, ItrEXLB07 and ItrEXLB08 might be the key genes for initial SR formation and enlargement, and ItrEXLA02 might be the key gene for root growth and development. This work provides new insights into the functions of the expansin gene family members in I. trifida, especially for EXLA and EXLB subfamilies genes in SR development.

Flexible Al-air batteries have great potential in the field of wearable electronic devices. However, how to reduce the thickness of the battery and improve their applicability in wearable applications is still an unresolved thorny problem. Therefore, this article focuses on the strategies to minimize the thickness of the solid electrolyte for flexible Al-air batteries. In this paper, an innovative aerosol jet printing method is used to prepare the ultrathin neutral electrolyte with a thickness of 18.3-74.5 µm. This study discusses the influence of the thickness and ion concentration on the conductance of the electrolyte in detail. The ultrathin electrolyte has been applied to the flexible Al-air battery, and the battery performance has been explored. The cell pack composed of single cells is light and thin, and can successfully drive small electrical equipment. This study provided new ideas for the preparation of ultrathin electrolyte for flexible energy products.

Chemoresistance limits treatment outcomes in colorectal cancer (CRC) patients. A dimeric metabolite of indole-3-carbinol, 3,3'-diindolylmethane (DIM) is abundant in cruciferous vegetables and has shown anticancer efficacy. The role of DIM in regulating chemosensitivity in CRC remains unknown. In this study, we demonstrated that DIM treatment inhibits the malignant progression of CRC. RNA sequencing indicated that pyrimidine synthesis genes are attenuated by DIM treatment. Stable 13C-labeled glucose tracing revealed that DIM inhibits de novo pyrimidine biosynthesis in CRC. DIM increases 5-FU cytotoxicity in CRC via regulation of the expression of pyrimidine metabolism-related genes. DIM synergizes with 5-FU to enhance its inhibitory effects on CRC both in vivo and in vitro. Our results suggest that DIM improves the therapeutic outcomes of FU-based chemotherapy in CRCs by inhibiting pyrimidine metabolism, identifying a new strategy for clinical therapy.

Background: The clinical presentation of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is heterogeneous, and there are little data available on the treatment of children with different types of ASD. We sought to explore which traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) syndrome type was more effective for children with ASD after 3 months of Early Denver Model intervention and to analyze the reasons for its efficacy from the perspective of TCM. Methods: This was a retrospective study. The subjects were children with ASD who were first diagnosed at the Developmental Behavioral Pediatrics, the First Hospital of Jilin University, between December 2018 and September 2019. Eighty-nine children were divided into a kidney jing deficiency group, a liver qi stagnation group, and a group with deficiency of both the heart and spleen. Results: After treatment, the total Autism Behavior Checklist (ABC), Autism Treatment Evaluation Checklist, and Childhood Autism Rating Scale scores were significantly reduced in the three groups (p < 0.05) compared to before treatment. Significant improvements were seen in all five domains of the Griffiths Development Scales-Chinese version in the LQ group (p < 0.05). After intervention, the LQ group showed greater improvements compared to the other two groups in the language, eye-hand coordination, body and object use, social and self-help, and total ABC scores. Conclusion: Our study showed that Early Denver Model intervention is effective in the treatment of three syndrome types of children with ASD, with the LQ group experiencing the most significant effects.

BACKGROUND: The prevalence of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) has increased rapidly in recent years. Environmental factors may play an important role in the pathogenesis of ASD. These factors may include socioeconomic factors, nutritional factors, heavy metal exposure, air pollution, etc. Our aim is to analyze possible environmental factors associated with the severity of ASD. METHODS: All participating children were divided into two groups (mild and moderate/severe) according to the severity of their symptoms, as determined by their Childhood Autism Rating Scale (CARS) scores. The socioeconomic, demographic factors and the nutritional factors that may affect the severity of ASD were included in the logistic regression to analyze whether they were predictors that affected the severity of ASD. RESULTS: Logistic regression showed that caregivers(P = 0.042), maternal education (P = 0.030), gastrointestinal problems (P = 0.041) and a high serum concentration of lead (P = 0.003) were statistically significantly associated with ASD severity. CONCLUSION: Many environmental factors affect the severity of ASD. We concluded that non-parental caregivers, low maternal education, gastrointestinal problems and high blood lead level maybe predictors that affected the severity of ASD in northeast China.
